Glazed items!

Glazing Process???
First i paint with wax resist in the bottom of  each of my ceramic pieces.  Then i choose the colors for my pieces. once we know what color to use we have to mix the glaze using our hand. after we are done mixing we can do brush test to see if the glaze is too thick or thin or just good. Only some of my ceramic pieces, i prepared with drawing like my teapot, and block pot. some of my pieces i just use brushing technique to glaze, for example my coil piece i just use brushing process. However my slab construction (the vase) i use brushing, pouring and dipping all three glazing process. i also used wax protection technique after i glaze in some of my decoration part. In some of my other pieces i just use dipping process for example tea pot set cups. It is really interesting how the glazing would turn out after fire.

Just for fun Star shape slab construction!
This one was my first piece pinch pot it turn out to be heart shape bowel.
My favorite coil construction final piece :)
Slab construction final piece... i had the most hard time working on this piece!
My unique Donuts shape teapot! I Love my this piece :)
Block pot! This took me pretty long to finish too... but it turn out to be pretty good :)
Cup set for my teapot i decided to make different colors for Fun :)

Tea Pot Set!

TEAPOT
This is my tea pot. i did tons of research before i started on this project. and i wanted to make something different then every one else. first i drew a diagram and i follow what i drew to create this teapot. i thought donuts shape teapot will be very interesting. i used all the technique coil, slab and pinch pot that i learned in ceramic class to create this piece. my cups were different shapes but i still enjoyed working in this piece! :)
MY donuts shape teapot!

And CUPS!

Block Pot

How to make block pot Butterfly?
First I took chunk of clay and roll it in round shape. Since I was making a Butterfly I divided my clay in three pieces. First two pieces were in same shape for my butterfly wings and third one is for the butterfly body part. I used my fingers to pinch the clay, and some times I also slam it to the table side by side to shape it as wings. After I shaped both side of my butterfly wings I worked on the body part. I did the same thing to shape it. It was not exactly in right shape so I decided to draw on it then used the clay knife to cut it in the good shape. After I get the shape I wanted I used long wire tool to cut top of my block pot so I can make lids out of it. I basically worked with three separate pieces of block pots so I also had three lids. Then I used my ceramic tool that allowed me to scoop out the clay which helped me to create the hollow space in the butterfly. I made the hollow space in all my three pieces. After I am done hollowing the butterfly wings and body I also began to hollow out the lids. After that I made the lid holder round and square shape and connect in the middle of each lid. Two round shape were for the wings part and the square shape is for the body part. After I am done with all three parts of my butterfly I smooth it then connect it all together using the slip. I also made the antennae of the butterfly to make it look more alive. Over all I used geometric design. Yes I did draw first before I put my hands on clay. My block pot was almost same as what I drew. In the butterfly body part I use incising method and draw some lines to decorate it. Over all I really enjoyed working in my block pot ceramic project. It took me very long time to finish my piece but at the end it was worth it. This piece is going to be jewelry box for my little sister.

Slab Construction

How to make slab construction???
In order to make a slab we can either use slab throwing process or slab roller. I useed slab throwing process to create my slab. First i cut a piece of clay then i pounded the clay in a circular shape. It will help to get rid of the bumps and wrinkles. Before i throw the slab i make sure the table has little bit of damp so clay wont stick on the table. I started by throwing the slab on the table and while throwing the slab i rotated it and change the direction. while throwing the slab we have to make sure that our hand follows the clay. I did not do too well in my first slab construction, because my slab got too thin. my second try was better then first one.  I created the template of my vase at home by using the card board. And i used my template to make a shape in the slab. Once we have template it was pretty easy to cut shapes from the slab. After i created my pieces i prepare the sides to join the pieces together.  i cut the sides of each piece in 45 degree angle this kind of joint is called bevel joint. After that i flip my piece and make some decoration using the leaves and neck-less. I basically press the leaves in the clay to create the leaf shape decoration then i did same thing with the neck-less too.  After i am done decorating i flipped the pieces other side, then i score the edge and i applied slip. then i connected all my pieces together with the help of my friend. Finally that i compressed all the sides.

These are my 1st slab construction.

Pinch pot and Coil construction

Coil Construction!
Coil construction is done by stacking and joining coils of clay one on top of the other.before i started my coil construction i researched some design in Google. In my coil construction i decided to make a vase for my pen and pencils. i saw various design in the goggle. As u can see in the picture, i made round shape out of coil to design my vase. . when i was working on this i just thought of also making the heart shape in my second layer and i also make letters. I prepared my coils a day before by using coil extruder and I put those in the plastic so it won't get dry. Next day first I flatten a piece of clay using slab method. Then I cut slab in round shape. after that i joined my different designed coil by using slips. when joining the coils together first i scratch the part where i will join coil together with brush then i connect it with slips. i follow same steps until i am done with connecting my last top layer!

Double pinch pot! is same technique as the pich pot in which we create two bowel using pinch pot process. Then we connect both bowel together and we can either create a vase or what ever we like. In my ceramic work i made a water container. This water container some what looks like a clay container from my village at Nepal. It reminds me of my child hood. i just decided to also add some pretty decoration for fun!

My very first Pinch Pot! :)
Our first work for this class was pinch pot. Pinch pot is a very basic pottery technique. we firs start with the ball of clay by impressing from the center of the ball. then we can start pinching the sides on however shape we like. at firls when i was working on my pinch pot it was circle bowel but later i turned it in to heart shape. which turn out to be pretty good!
